Mostly Minutiae No. 1

The cold came creeping
in more ways than one.
Firstly, long sunny days
and the desert heat ended

It seemed to come with the
thud of a final curtain.
Winter is upon us. I can
tell because both breakfast
and dinner are in the dark.

Secondly, cold in the form
of the creeping crud has
pelted my immune system
and me for the last two weeks.

This morning it got serious.
Echinacea and vitamin C are
a myth; may be your savior
but not mine.

I took it and just found out I
I can’t spell it either. Took me
four tries; Echinacea is a spell
checker’s nightmare!

Do you know what that means?
It means my throat feels nuclear.
It means no kisses. No nothing.
No, I’m wrong.

When your throat feels like the
day after Chernobyl, it means
that “no nothing” changes
to “less than nothing.” Drat!

Poet, Writer, US Army (Retired)

I dreamed of writing when I was a youngster. The love of books and writing may have helped to dull the pain of severe sexual abuse as I was sexually abused by two men at my father’s place of work from age 8 to 12 or so. I learned about this for the first time when I was 50 years old. So, as a boy, reading was the only place I had to go to. My fantasy world was better and safer than my real world. I loved reading and writing.
Reading books and writing poetry are a joy to me still and are an important part of my life. (See my About Me page on my blog for the complete profile.)
