Yet So Near

the wind whips
around in strange
patterns

while a fast moving
rain does the same
passing through

on the tails of a
strong wind
even so

I put dishes away
while I made a
cup of hot tea

what could taste
better in a brewing
tropical storm

cookies with tea

she was asleep on
the sofa so I
reached for my

cookie stash
and I threw three
round generic

chocolate cookies
filled with vanilla
cream and two

Vienna Finger
cookies on a
paper plate

with my large tea
and cookies in hand
I made my way

to my loft to work
on my book but
will post this first

the tea is divine

the cookies are
gone and about
three sips remain

I smile as the sun
sneaks through
because

I know what the
storm doesn’t
know

the sun in the
midst of a storm
is a reminder

that the Lord is
watching over
you

and my dearest
who has napped
through the wind

the rain the tea and
the cookies even
the sun so far

yet so near

Poet, Writer, US Army (Retired)

I dreamed of writing when I was a youngster. The love of books and writing may have helped to dull the pain of severe sexual abuse as I was sexually abused by two men at my father’s place of work from age 8 to 12 or so. I learned about this for the first time when I was 50 years old. So, as a boy, reading was the only place I had to go to. My fantasy world was better and safer than my real world. I loved reading and writing.
Reading books and writing poetry are a joy to me still and are an important part of my life. (See my About Me page on my blog for the complete profile.)
